Y-type Stator: An alternator stator winding with the three-phase coils connected at the centre in order to give a large voltage output. The normal winding for light vehicle applications. Also star wound stator.
Yaw: Movement or oscillation about the vertical axis of a vehicle when travelling.
Yoke: A forked end on a component. Originates from the two arms used to attach a cart to a horse.
